Sioux Falls and Rapid City will have overpass protests against amnesty

July 16, 2014

1283183069On July 18th & 19th there will be a  National Day of Protesting against Immigration Reform/ Amnesty & Border Surge. Personally I don’t agree with the “Close the borders now” crowd. But I think its great to see people who are participating in political activism. So I’ll do my part and at least let people know about the protest. Here is what the events organizers have to say about the protests:

On July 18 and 19, 2014, the largest coordinated protest against all forms of amnesty, comprehensive immigration reform, and the government’s failure to enforce immigration laws and secure our borders will begin, all across America.   The protests are scheduled to be held at state capitols, Mexican consulates, and on streets and overpasses coast-to-coast, including Hawaii and Alaska.

There are two events planned in South Dakota on July 19th, both of them on overpasses:

Sioux Falls, On the overpass at W 41st and I-29 Saturday, July 19, 11:00am – 4:00pm. This protest will take place on the Overpass.

Rapid City, On the overpass at Elk Vale Road and I-90,  Saturday, July 19, 11:00am – 4:00pm. This protest will take place on the Overpass.

A Facebook event page has been setup for the national protest.

Overpass protests have increasingly become a favorite tactic for many conservative political groups over the last couple of years. About 11 months ago there was an overpass protest in Rapid City with the goal of impeaching Obama. As the 2014 election season continues I wonder if there won’t be more of this overpass activism.
