SD 2015 Legislature: 2 bills on Senate floor and 1 commemoration on House floor for Jan 20

January 20, 2015

tavolozza-architetto-fra-01Bills are starting to flow through the legislative committee’s in Pierre this week. Today the Senate has two bills on the floor that have passed through committee. The House has a commemoration up for consideration.

Senate:

Consent Calendar Items:

SB 35 – SB 35 passed the Senate State Affairs committee with no issue. It repeals outdated code relating to the Dept of Veteran Affairs.

Bills not on the Consent Calendar:

SB 23 – SB 23 passed the Senate State Affairs committee with no issue. This bill is being pushed through so the accreditation of the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings can be upheld; and some language in codified law has to be cleaned up for the museums accreditation to remain intact. Unfortunately a variation of this bill will be necessary next year to remove language referring to the SD Federation of Women’s Clubs. It would have been better if they just did it all at once in this bill.

Bills not on the Consent Calendar:

HC 1001 – This House Commemoration honors Jim Hagen for receiving the State Tourism Director of the Year award. I don’t really have any thoughts on this since I really don’t have any interest in commemorations.
