House Retirement Laws committee meets on Jan 26 to take on 5 SDRS bills

January 25, 2015

On Monday, January 26th, the House Retirement Laws committee will take up five bills. This may be the only time this session this committee has to come together. All five bills are at the request of the South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS) to modify current SDRS codified law. This is an area I have very little experience in. So I will likely listen in just to learn a few things.

Here are the bills being looked at by the committee.

HB 1007 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise and update certain provisions relating to the South Dakota Retirement System.

HB 1008 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Provide for a consistent refund methodology for members of the South Dakota Retirement System and their beneficiaries.

HB 1009 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Limit the recovery of certain overpayments made by the South Dakota Retirement System.

HB 1010 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise certain provisions relating to disability and surviving spouse benefits for members of the South Dakota Retirement System.

HB 1011 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Provide for automatic increases in the accounts of automatically-enrolled participants of the deferred compensation plan of the South Dakota Retirement System.

While looking at the SDRS website I noticed this nice little chart summarizing some fiscal year 14 highlights. It doesn’t necessarily have to do with any of the bills being discussed in the committee meeting. I just found these numbers interesting.
