Senate Ed committee has three bills for Tuesday Jan 27

January 26, 2015

DooFi-Certificate-1On Tuesday, January 27th, the Senate Education committee will take up three bills.

SB 33 – SoDakLiberty PostsExtend resident tuition eligibility to the spouses and children of active duty military personnel and of qualifying veterans.

The Department of Veteran Affairs asked for this bill. Currently a veteran does not have to meet the twelve-month residency requirements to be considered a resident for tuition. This bill would add the same right to the veterans spouse or children.

SB 43 SoDakLiberty PostsRevise certain provisions regarding lease purchase agreement payments and to ratify certain lease purchase agreements with the Health and Educational Facilities Authority.

The Department of Education requested this bill. This appears to be clarifying the lease payments made by the legislature for education building.

SB 42 – SoDakLiberty PostsRevise certain provisions relating to the filing of student birth certificates.

Another Dept of Ed bill. Some of this is language cleanup. It also adds a number of documents that can be used in place of a birth certificate when enrolling in a school (public or nonpublic).
