Senate Judiciary has four bills on Tues Feb 3

jcartier-administration-1On Tuesday, February 3rd, at 8:00 AM the SD Senate Judiciary committee will take on 4 bills.

HB 1061 SoDakLiberty PostsRepeal an outdated and obsolete provision related to transferring cases from inferior courts to circuit courts.

This bill passed House Judiciary and the House floor with no opposition. The Chief Justice asked for this bill. This one appears to clean up unnecessary code.

HB 1062 – SoDakLiberty PostsRevise certain provisions relating to jury selection.

This bill passed House Judiciary and the House floor with no opposition. Another bill coming from the Chief Justice. This bill appears to be simplifying the process to select a jury panel in circuit court. It makes this the responsibility of the Clerk of Court; and removes the register of deeds, county treasurer, and sheriff from this process.

HB 1063 – SoDakLiberty PostsRevise the notice provisions for the name change of a minor child.

This bill passed House Judiciary and the House floor with no opposition. One more from he Chief Justice. This one appears to make sure that the other parent of a child is notified when there will be a name change for a child.

HB 1065 – SoDakLiberty PostsRevise certain provisions related to voting trusts and agreements.

This bill passed House Judiciary and the House floor with no opposition. Rep Mike Stevens (R, Dist 18) is the prime sponsor of this bill. This bill appears to remove the ten-year limit from voting trusts.
