Senate Judiciary has four bills on Thurs Feb 5

February 4, 2015

Caution-alcoholismOn Thursday, February 5th, at 8:00 AM the SD Senate Judiciary committee will take on 4 bills.

Also on the agenda:

Governor’s Appointment:
Patricia White Horse Carda, Charles Mix County, Wagner, South Dakota, to the Board of Pardons and Paroles

SB 97 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise the allowable penalties for a person admitted to drug court.

Sen Craig Tieszen (R, Dist 34) and Rep Jacqueline Sly – (R, Dist 33) are the prime sponsors. I’ll probably listen to this one to make sure I understand it before commenting.

SB 98 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise the provisions related to the financial accountability system.

Sen Craig Tieszen (R, Dist 34) and Rep Jacqueline Sly – (R, Dist 33) are the prime sponsors. This one seems to be wording clarification. But I will listen to this as well. Some of the wording changes seem substantive.

SB 108 SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise certain provisions relating to aggravated DUI’s.

Sen Craig Tieszen (R, Dist 34) and Rep Brian Gosch (R, Dist 32) are the prime sponsors. Currently if a person is being convicted for a sixth offense (or more), with at least five of them in the last 25 years, then the person wis in violation of an aggravated offense and guilty of a Class 4 felony. This bill would add the stipulation that at least two of the prior convictions must be in the last ten years. There also seems to be some wording cleanup.

SB 95 – SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise provisions related to human trafficking.

Sen Ried Holien (R, Dist 5) and Rep Scott Craig (R, Dist 33) are the prime sponsors. The biggest change here appears to be making a distinction between 18 and older and under 18 (replacing under 16) in human trafficking code.
