Governor Daugaard has signed two bills into law so far this session

February 6, 2015

johnny-automatic-dental-examWeek four of the South Dakota 2015 legislative session is completed! All individual and committee bills have been submitted and bills are starting to really move through the legislative process. This week also marked the first two bills being signed into law by Governor Daugaard.

On Feb 4th the governor signed his first bill of this session into law:

SB 28SoDakLiberty PostsAuthorize the Board of Regents to sell certain extraneous real property to the City of Brookings, to deposit the proceeds in the school and public lands trust for the benefit of South Dakota State University, and to declare an emergency.

This bill was fast-tracked through the legislature in order to allow SDSU to sell an unneeded piece of land to the City of Brookings. Brookings needs the land so it can begin construction on a new shop to replace one that had a fire last year. This is the type of bill I like. There is no reason for the State to hold onto a piece of land that isn’t being used (and hasn’t been used for decades). The money from the sale of the land will go to SDSU.

Today, Feb 6th, the governor signed one more bill into law.

HB 1045SoDakLiberty Posts – Revise certain provisions regarding licensure of dentists and dental hygienists and registration of dental auxiliaries.

This bill met no resistance in either house. This was a major cleanup of dental code in South Dakota spearheaded by the SD State Board of Dentistry.
