My Memorial Day song playlist

May 27, 2017 Comments off

Arlington Cemetery

It has been a while since I’ve done a song playlist on this site. To rectify this I though it would be appropriate to list my favorite five songs remembering those who gave their lives serving the USA. Please take a moment this holiday weekend to think about and quietly thank those soldiers for giving everything.

This list is country-heavy and is not listed in any particular order. Well except for the last one… That one is special for me…

1 – Arlington by Trace Adkins

This song from Trace is a tribute to those resting in Arlington National Cemetery.

2- If You’re Reading This by Tim McGraw

This song was written as if a letter was sent by a fallen soldier to their family.

3 – 50,000 Names by George Jones

A tribute to the soldiers listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

4- More Than a Name on a Wall by the Statler Brothers

Another song inspired by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall .

5 – Some Gave All by Billy Ray Cyrus

I was never a big fan of Billy Ray Cyrus, but this song will always have a special place in my heart. I often think of this song as I remember my time being deployed in the army; not everyone was fortunate enough to come back home.

Help Jon and Amanda adopt a child

Jon and Amanda

Jon and Amanda

Every now and then on this blog I like to highlight a worthy cause. This time around I would like to bring attention to Jon and Amanda and their quest to become parents. Jon and Amanda are unable to have children of their own and wish to adopt. Before I speak too much about Jon and Amanda I would like to share what has been written up about them on the GoFundMe page setup to help pay for this adoption:

Jon and Amanda fell in love at first sight.  They were married and wanted nothing more than to become parents.  Unfortunately they learned that they are unable to have biological children of their own.  They would like to adopt a child (or children) to complete their family.  The difficult part is that the adoption process is not only a long journey but it is also expensive.  They have looked into grants but it is required of them to pay a significant amount up front before they can even apply for the grants.  Unlike a tradition birth, insurance companies do not help pay for adoptions.  This all makes it difficult for them to adopt and become the parents they long to be.

I have known Amanda 13 years as we knew each other in college before she met my brother-in-law, Jon.  Together they are the nicest people you will ever meet and will always go out of their way to help you out.  They are strong in their faith and have prayed about this decision for some time now.  I believe God would not have put the desire upon their hearts to become parents unless it was meant to be.  Please help their dreams come true and assist them with becoming parents.  Any donation would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you so very much and God bless!

I also happen to know Jon and Amanda and truly believe they would make wonderful parents. Both of them are caring and I have seen them both go out of their way to help family, friends, and neighbors in times of need. A real good example of that is Amanda’s father Jerry; who is pictured with the couple below. Jon and Amanda have opened their home to Jerry. It seems rare in the modern world for people to help take care of their parents as they get older. But Jon and Amanda have such dedication to family that have taken Jerry into their home and from what I have observed he is treated with love and compassion by the couple.

Undertaking this adoption will be a long road for Jon and Amanda. There is a lot of time and expenses involved. Part of the expense was to expand and remodel their current home so it would be ready for a new child. That remodel job is almost completed and you can see Jon and Amanda’s eyes light up when talking about the new bedroom added for a child. There are still a lot of expenses to come. As the GoFundMe page  notes it is a very expensive process undertaking an adoption. To be able to apply for grants the couple has to have at least $5,000 on hand. I would ask if anyone reading this has any money to spare, even if it is only $5, to visit the GoFundMe page and donate to the cause.

One last note. While I feel this is a worthy cause, others may not. Even if you do not give money to Jon and Amanda’s adoption of a child, please help other causes within your community. I often hear people talk about how society isn’t like it used to be. Well, that can be changed if all of us start helping and caring for our neighbors.

How to help the Kaiser family during their time of need

January 6, 2016 Comments off

Earlier this afternoon Rep Dan Kaiser (R, Dist 3) let everyone know via social media that his son Jaxon has been diagnosed with leukemia and will be treated at the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls. This is a difficult time for the Kaiser family and they appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that are being sent their way.

Aside from thoughts and prayers, there is another way to help out the Kaiser household. A family member has set up a Jaxon Kaiser GoFundMe page to help the Kaiser household. Here is what is posted on the Jaxon Kaiser GoFundMe page:

Jax from the GoFundMe page.

Jax from the GoFundMe page.

My name is Sarah and I am raising money for my totally awesome nephew Jaxon Kaiser and his parents Dan and Laura Kaiser.
Unfortunately 2016 has started out to be the worst year for them, Jaxon was diagnosed with a type of Childhood leukemia, he is a sweet, fun-loving kid who truly cares about everyone he has ever met. He is in for a rough battle but we know he can beat the crap out of cancer. I am trying to raise money for his medical bills and also for his parents to be able to take time off of work to stay with him for his treatments.  The closest medical center for children is over 3 hours away from their home, which is where they will be spending a fair amount of time in the months to come.
Dan Kaiser is an Iraq  war veteran, and a police officer, as well as a state representative. Laura Kaiser is a former state agent and currently self-employed as a private investigator.
They are loving parents who would do anything for their children.
We would be so grateful for any amount you can share with them,  as we want to allow them to spend this time with their beloved son and not have to worry about paying bills, or covering what insurance does not.

Thank you in advance.
love and prayers welcome

For anyone that can help the Kaiser family in this time of need please visit the Jaxon Kaiser GoFundMe page.
